Neil Armstrong
Neil revealed that he started playing
the cornet at 8 years old and was exposed to the musical world by his father,
who used to sit next to Maurice Murphy (ex principal at the London Symphony Orchestra
and Black Dyke Mills band). He was totally inspired to practice & went on to
play with Harton & Westoe Colliery & Boldon Colliery brass bands.
A 24 year career in the military then followed and he considers himself to
have been fortunate having travelled extensively around the world taking
part in many key events and occasions.
Neil left the forces in 2010 and now runs his own brass quintet 'Inspired Brass' .
His real passion is for jazz and he plays with several big bands and ensembles. He is glad to be part of the fine bunch that make up the Apollo Big Band
