Apollo Big Band

Established 18 Jan 2001.    Based in Stockcross, Berkshire, UK


Rehearsals have been suspended until further notice.

Apart from 3 rehearsals in September the band has not been able to meet since mid March 2020. However, we have been practicing individually in the backroom and recorded videos of our parts for Apollo's video Christmas Card. 

Thanks to Simon (upright bass) for making a wonderfull job of assembling the 17 videos.

Multi award-winning jazz trombonist Mark Nightingale is now a firmly established favourite on the UK jazz scene, and has gained a reputation as one of the top-flight jazz trombonists in Europe and worldwide. Mark has had longstanding musical associations playing in bands led by John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Stan Tracey, Kenny Wheeler, Andy Panayi, Clark Tracey, and Alan Barnes over the years. He also fronts various small groups and a big band of his own, featuring his own compositions and arrangements. Mark is also a busy studio musician in London and has played on hundreds of movie soundtracks, and has been fortunate to play and record with some of the greats in all genres of music. These include Ray Brown, Clark Terry, Scott Hamilton, James Morrison, Bill Holman, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Watts, Sting and Steely Dan. He is best known to many young players for his growing catalogue of educational studies and short pieces published by ‘Warwick Music’, and used extensively by the ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall in their music exam syllabi.  Visit Mark's website

The Apollo Big Band will also be joined by outstanding jazz vocalist Steph Richardson, who never fails to delight audiences with her charming and charismatic performances of feel-good big band songs old and new. Steph is a regular and popular performer with the Apollo Big Band  but she has also appeared in many venues around south East England.

Steph has sung alongside many great muscians, artists and bands and has had the pleasure of performing with Phil Veacock, Miles Lovettand the National Jazz Orchesttra.

In addition to singing Steph has produced and performed many sell-out shows for the Hungerford Arts Festival, featured at the Rye International Jazz Festival and also writes her own songs which she performs on ukelele. 

Steph, a very talernted young lady,  is originally from Hungerford and has performed in local events and venues  from the age of 12.

Basie and Miller to Jools Holland and Michael Bublé and Paloma Faith the Apollo Big Band swings with the sounds of the big band era while taking the best from more modern writers and singers. Based in Stockcross near Newbury the band can be seen regularly performing in public, keeping alive the big band sound with originals as well as more contemporary arrangements.
The Apollo Big Band provides fantastic sounds and singers for concerts, weddings and all public and private functions whether concerts, dances or a mixture of these.. We can organise a show, dance or concert to meet your needs.
