the big band with the big sound

The Apollo Big Band is based in Stockcross, Berkshire (near Newbury) and is a non profit making society formed in Jan 2001 by George Wicks and Nigel Revler. The objectives of the band are to promote interest and participation in music from the big band era.

Since it was established in January 2001 the Apollo Big Band has played at The Anvil Theatre in Basingstoke, the Newbury Corn Exchange (five times), The Hexagon Theatre in Reading, The Glebe Stockcross (six times), The Theatre Royal Winchester and has also played in Holland, Germany and Switzerland. The Apollo Big Band has supported charity events including a show at The Camberley Theatre for the “Star and Garter Home” for disabled service men. See our pictures for more.

The band rehearses on Thursday evenings in Stockcross Village Hall from 20:00 to 22:00. The band occasionally invites deputies to join both rehearsal sessions and sometimes gigs when there are vacancies. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to hear the type of music we perform. In addition to a number of private events the band has organised several “Friends and Family” evenings for fun and to try out new numbers.

The band is available to play for both private functions and public gigs. Please see the home page for details of our forthcoming concerts and performances, and our contact us page to discuss bookings.
